A New Program for Rome

New York State & National Registers of Historic Places

In spring of 2025 the City of Rome was officially listed on the New York State and National Register of Historic Places for several historically important properties.  The listing provides additional funding resources to protect and enhance the local Historic and Scenic Preservation District and surrounding historic homes not included in the local district, as well as provide further financial resources for capital improvements for building-owners within the boundary.

The City worked with the project consultant and  the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation on identifying contributing structures that would be worthy of nomination, and identify additional properties that are not currently known as historic resources.

Listing on the registry gives property owners an important financial tool to assist in home maintenance and improvement of registered properties.
