The Office of the City Clerk serves as a direct link between the residents and their local government. The Clerk is the keeper of the time clock, the official custodian of the City Seal, the City Charter, and Rome’s Code of Ordinances. In addition, the Clerk administers oaths of office for elected officials and individuals appointed to the City Boards. The Clerk also serves as Registrar of Vital Statistics for the City of Rome.

The Registrar of Vital Statistics is responsible for the filing of all births and deaths that occur within the City of Rome. Vital Records are maintained and issued pursuant to the requirements set forth by the New York State Department of Health. To visit the Vital Statistics page, click here.

The City Clerk also serves as clerk to the Common Council and Board of Estimate and Contract. Once legislation is drafted by the Corporation Counsel, the Clerk prepares the meeting agendas and records the proceedings.

The City Clerk’s Office is open to the public from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, and is closed on Holidays. However, closing procedures make it necessary to stop financial transactions fifteen minutes prior to the posted 4:30 pm closing time. Please plan accordingly.
